Ashley’s Devotionals – Why Has God been Silent?

Categories: Ashley's Devotionals

AshleyFor quite a while now, God has been silent.

I know he is always there; yet I feel like I can’t reach him.

Where did he go? Why is he so far away? When will I feel his presence again?

King David talks a lot about God being silent in the book of Psalms.

-To you, O LORD, I call; my rock, do not be deaf to me, for if you are silent to me, I will become like those who go down to the pit. (Psalm 28:1)

-Oh God, do not remain quiet; do not be silent and, O God, do not be still. (Psalms 83:1)

-Oh God of my praise, do not be silent. (Psalms 109:1)

King David is referred to as “A man after God’s own heart”. IF he was considered that and still felt God was silent, WHAT am I to feel?

In Psalms 13, David wrote, “How long, Lord? Will you forget me for, Forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart?”

I get the feeling that King David felt lost without God. It seems like he lost his best friend.

That’s how we should feel without GOD.

WE are LOST without HIM.

Why are we lost?

It could be because of a sin in your life…

It could be because you are too busy and not spending time seeking God…

God could be testing you…

But… Whatever the reason; TRUST GOD.

We look back to King David in Psalms 13, “But I trust in your unfailing love; My heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me.”

For us to make it in this ever changing world, we have to have a firm foundation in Jesus. Nothing else will keep us safe, sane, or satisfied.

If you cannot find God…

if he is hiding from you…

if he is being silent…

Call out to him. Seek him. Pray constantly.

Ask and it will be given, seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you- Matthew 7:7

He wants us to want to talk to him and to seek him out.

-Think of it this way-

If you have a friend, but you never talk to this friend; you never call (unless you need something); you don’t tell them about your day or ask them how they are; They come to visit but your too busy.

You don’t visit this friend or invite them over. In fact, sometimes you even deny you know this person or you ignore them in public.

You say you are going to meet this friend everyday to talk and spend time with them; but you don’t. You make excuses and say that it won’t happen again; But it does. -Oh, then something tragic happens. You call your friend… You need them. You go to their house, but they won’t see you…

You get upset because your friend isn’t helping you. Your friend isn’t there for you. How dare they!

Does this sound familiar?

I bet it does.

It’s so easy to push God aside. Life gets in the way. You get busy.

Then you wonder… Why haven’t I heard from God in a while? Why haven’t I felt his presence?

God is constant. God is never changing. He is the same yesterday, as today, and will be tomorrow.
